When I was growing up my hobbies were hunting and fishing. For the last ten plus years my hobby has been
doing nature projects. These are pictures from one of my projects in central Indiana. This is a place called
"Shawnee Bottoms" and is owned by NICHES. It lies along the Wabash River near Attica, Indiana. Years ago the Erie Canal had a line
here and the old roadbed is still very pronounced. They didn't float the boats on the Wabash as I had thought
they must have done. They had a small ditch above the roadbed, about four foot deep, which was enough to float
the boats. Later a railroad bought the right-of-way and ran trains to Covington and Portland Arch from
Lafayette, Indiana. There are still lots of cinders along the old roadbed. There is a Bald Eagle nest on the
property and they return every year to the same tree. My orginal idea was that they lived here because of the
Wabash River, but they seem to live off "Scotts Pond" which is only a few feet from their nest. There are lots
of Carp and Bowfin in the pond. If you click on the thumbnails it will take you to my website where the bigger
pictures and text are.
